Wylde Flowers
Probably my favourite 3D farm sim with queer witches
My Score: 10/10
This is one of favourite games of recent times, if not of all time. If you don't want to read everything below, I will say this game is definitely worth it. Hopefully not too many spoilers in the review.
I was hoping for a game that was basically Stardew Valley with gay witches and it turns out this exact game exists. I've played it all the way through to Spring year 4 and have finally unlocked everything I can find. The only shame is there's not much left to do once you've completed all quests and achievements as there's nothing to spend your money on. I can't complain though, as I've gotten more that 160 hours of amazing game play out of this game and that was just a single play through.
I love that you are in control of the seasons and you're not fixed to the 28 days you get with SDV, so there's no need to worry about trying to time your crops so they don't expire, plus the whole story behind the coven's responsibilities over the seasons and the weather. You also get winter crops, which is something SDV didn't have.
I love this game has no combat to worry about, and love the magic system and the fact you can use various spells to help with your farming, like speeding up plant growth. You can also freeze time if you want to keep playing and you don't want to get timed out at night, and you get to play as your familiar if you want. Having a broom as a fast travel system is pretty clever way of dealing with it.
The whirligigs are a massive assist, once you've gotten far enough to unlock them. Not having to water every crop (particularly in the greenhouse) and getting free mining resources, wood, fish etc is a big help later in the game. They also make the game feel more cosy than just having sprinklers.
While it does like a little longer to pet animals in this game, it is definitely worth it for the cuteness of it all. Plus the fact you get magical animals late on in the game is just cuteness overload. Who doesn't want a rainbow alpaca?
The festivals in this game feel like they are paced a lot better, as I felt in SDV there were too many festivals, so at least this way you don't have to worry about losing several days a season, although I believe the only festival that repeats every year is the winter one.
The world itself is really nice, but the fact you also get magical realms to visit with extra characters to talk to, makes the game feel more complete. Plus I have a feeling one of those characters will be returning during the prequel. (Can't wait)
The photo mode in this game is truly adorable and I wish I had taken way more photos during my first play through. Also the number of clothes, particularly dresses, to choose from really make it feel like I can express myself through the main character Tara.
