Spirit Crossing (Beta Review)
Explore and have fun with your friends
My Score: I will add a score once the game hits Early Access
I will update this review once I’ve played it in Early Access, but based on what I’ve seen and played during the beta, I am very excited to play this game again.
It has a lot of the same ideas as another game I’ve recently beta tested, Loftia, however this is definitely it’s own game. While they both involve collecting resources on various floating islands and playing together with other players while doing story quests, I would say Spirit Crossing is more story and friend focused. While Loftia also has friends and stories, it seems to be more focused on crafting and decorating your house while managing your energy.
So far I’ve not had chance to test the house building system in Spirit Crossing too much, but it seems that you place the items you want from a catalogue and then you actually create the items by adding materials. I’m not sure how easy this will be to create house designs and structures of any real size, so we’ll have to see if I continue the playtest or wait until it reaches early access.
One thing I did find slightly frustrating and hopefully will be solved in a future version is the way you add friends. I understand it is to protect people from random players, but it does make finding a group of friends a little awkward. So far I have found the only way to get around this is to agree to meet up in the same location and then invite each other to add friends, once you do this you can see their character name, which seems to be their steam name. I’m not sure if this is the plan for the full game or if people will be able to create characters that aren’t linked to their steam names.
